Dec - Herbs & Poinsettia

Time to plant...

Herbs

Poinsettia

Plant leafy herbs such as basil, thyme, corriander and parsely now for the perfect addition to meals of all kinds.

Planting

   - Plant your herbs into a part shaded position. If you are planting them into the ground, mix through plenty of Groganic, and if you are planting them into pots, use a good quality potting mix such as Terracotta & Tub.

Care

   - Feed with Maxicrop seaweed plant food every two weeks over the growing season to ensure lush green growth.

Harvesting

   - All herbs can be collected as needed from the plant and used fresh or dried. If you have too much to use straight away, all herbs can be dried for later use, except for dill which can be stored in the freezer for up to a year.

Poinsettias are a wonderful plant for all times of the year, though they're mostly given as gifts at Christmas time due to their wonderful red bracts.

The natural flowering season for poinsettias is winter, so when you get your poinsettia in summer for Christmas, expect it to continue flowering for most of the year.

Planting

   - Poinsettias are most easily kept in pots as you can bring them inside when they are in flower. Make sure they don't get any hot direct sunlight and minimal water. Rain is usually enough to keep them happy

Care

   - Feed with Maxicrop once a fortnight to maintain a healthy happy plant.
