Primrose (Primula aucalis)
Flowers are truly amazing. Even the common Primrose can captivate the eye with such detail. Beautiful in shady borders and woodland gardens. Especially nice for mixing with spring bulbs. Perfect for all kinds of containers and makes a terrific gift plant in a small pot. Now $2.99each or 10 for $25 and $24.99 in a bouquet tin as a gift.
Carolyn’s Favourite Indoor Plant
Epipremnum aureus
Of course it’s hard to decide, but this beauty is 3 years old and has been growing on top of the hall cupboard. It’s not in the brightest of positions so you will notice the leaf variegation is not as obvious. This clever guy has produced more green cells to compensate for the lower light level. See the more dominant golden variegation in younger plants growing in higher light levels.
If you don’t have much floor space for indoor plants take a new look at a position on a bookshelf or tall cabinet.

 Chop Suey Green
 (Shungiku)
Easy to grow, interesting and nutritious, shungiku adds variety and unusual flavours to your food. It comes originally from the Mediterranean, parts of Europe and northern Asia, but is now widely grown and naturalised in the cooler highland tropical regions of South-East Asia, China and Japan. Botanically it used to be called Chrysanthemum coronarium but is now Glebionis coronaria.
This edible chrysanthemum is an annual that grows initially from a single, tender, round stalk with finely-cut, green leaves. If not harvested, the plants will grow to 1m and develop daisy-like yellow flowers over a long period. The flowers are golden yellow in the centre and the pale creamy yellow on the outside.
Shungiku grows best in a nutrient- and humus-rich soil in full sun, although sow them in semi-shade if you are planting in the middle of summer. Plants need to be watered regularly. Pick the first tender they are at their best when plants are young. They can become bitter as the plant ages, or in very hot weather. Remove the flower heads from most of the plants to encourage more leaf growth, but allow a couple of plants to flower so the flowers can be picked and used. Shungiku grows well in pots and its a good idea to plant successive small plots so that you’ve always got some on hand

POSSUM TROUBLES???

Winter is the worst time for possums as they descend from tall deciduous trees which have lost all of their leaves to devour or precious flowers & veggies. We don’t mind sharing a bit but when they get greedy Animal Away Plus is the only option. Position the device on a fence line or where you know possums enter your property.
Expert tip. Change the position every week so smart  possums don’t become accustomed to the irritating light and strobe. Plus we turn it off when they is no possum damage occurring. Save on battery
