Wonderful Winter Rose

Heleborus orientalis

Now all of the autumn leaves have fallen, it is time to give your deciduous trees a perfect planting partner. Winter Rose (Helleborus) are one of the few plant varieties that offer colour for winter. They are a tough, low plant that can be planted en masse in a shady position, perfect under trees. You could plant a mass of one variety or become a collector of Hellebores and plant a mix. The colour range is huge; from plum, pink, peach, primrose and white.

Their petal structure is also unique; some with a single row of petals, double or tutu. Hellebores also look great and thrive among Camellias and Daphne to creative a riot of colour in winter. There is such a huge range of varieties of winter colour choice to liven up your garden this season.

Every indoor oasis needs an UMBRELLA!
Schefflera (Umberella Plants) are available in large and small leaved varieties, with their leaf segments forming an umbrella like structure to capture the light. There are dwarf varieties, while others can grow tall quite quickly if you plant them in a large (50cm) pot.
Glossy green and lush they are great in the corner of a bright to medium well lit room. We keep them mostly indoors in Melbourne but they can be grown as trees outdoors in the northern states. Discover the full range of

Window and  Zebras Plants

Haworthia

This unusual succulent family is related to the Aloes and is happy indoors or in a protected spot outside.  They look great on a window sill or in a mixed succulent bowl in the centre of a table. Low maintenance and fascinating.  They are great when you get up close;  some have translucent small fleshy leaves which appear as though you can see right into the plant like a window. Others have stripes on their leave resembling zebras. Isn’t nature amazing. You can thank South Africa for these ones.
